Sarkar (2018) Sundar Ramaswamy, a successful NRI corporate raider, returns to Chennai to cast his vote in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, only to discover that his vote has been fraudulently cast. Outraged, he challenges the electoral malpractice, raising public awareness about voter fraud and prompting the Election Commission to annul the results, leading to fresh elections.
Facing multiple assassination attempts orchestrated by the incumbent political powers, Sundar decides to contest the election as an independent candidate. Despite initial unpopularity due to his corporate background, his compelling narrative of rising from humble beginnings garners massive public support. Through strategic exposure of the ruling party’s corruption, Sundar and his supporters win the election. However, he chooses not to assume the Chief Minister’s role, instead appointing an honest colleague to lead, emphasizing his commitment to systemic political reform.
