Thiru Manickam is a 2024 Tamil-language drama directed by Nanda Periyasamy, featuring Samuthirakani as Manickam, a lottery shop owner in the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border town of Kumily. Manickam leads a humble life with his wife Sumathi (Ananya) and their two daughters, one of whom has a speech impediment. One day, an elderly man (Bharathiraja) selects a lottery ticket from Manickam’s shop but cannot pay for it immediately, promising to return later. When that ticket wins a ₹1.5 crore prize, Manickam faces a moral dilemma: keep the winnings to alleviate his family’s financial struggles or uphold his integrity by returning the ticket to its rightful owner.
Despite pressure from his family, who are eager to resolve their monetary issues, Manickam embarks on a challenging journey to find the elderly man and return the ticket. His quest reveals the complexities of human nature and the societal pressures that challenge personal ethics.
